Cjlr i think you are missing the point and joining the *lets bash the whinners* crowd.

Its not about rushing the game but rather the lack of fun while playing it. GWP had many incentives for doing fed ex type quest, the strongest being skills, while factions....earilier post explained it well enough, its simply frustrating along with other things the OP mentioned.

"Why cry about it?" people may ask. "Dont like it leave and dont look back" some may comment but understand that not everyone plays this game alone to enjoy it but rather with their friends or their guilds and some of us wants to remain playing together as much as possible as far into the future as possible but when GW becomes a hostile game to play, communities will need to look for another game to resettle and restart. These are just some of the reasons why some of us are concerned enough about guildwars to *whine* about it.

If i didnt care less i wouldnt have even borthered to spend time on these forums at all and am sure its the same for many of the fans here.

how about FABLE?: THE LOST CHAPTERS? that game where they tacked on 3-5 hours of play (very rough tack on) and the reviews were very high even though.......

FINISH IN 15 HOURS
COST 50 BUCKS
HAS ALMOST NO REPLAY VALUE.

I wouldn't. Anet has shown they can produce a decent game that mostly satisfies both PvP and PvE players. It's called Guild Wars:Prophecies. I can only speak to the PvE side of Factions and IMO they've stumbled, but I'll forgive them if they fix the main complaints (work on the henchie AI so the game can be entirely henched if a player so desires, open up the missions pre-LA for Canthan characters, introduce some new interesting quests and remove some of the back-and-forth obviously FedEx ones). I won't preorder chapter three like I did chapter two, but if the early PvE reviews are good, I'll buy it. I'd like to see them get a chance to redeem themselves.

I do feel I got my money's worth--I've played Factions quite a bit and will continue to play it, despite its warts. Just like I feel I got my money's worth if I pay for a movie that turns out to be mediocre. I'm just a little more hesitant to shell out money next time the same guy directs a movie.

I will agree much with OP.

I dislike A.net charging a full game price for something that is not a full game. Faction is too short, and not really offer too much "newness", and at best, can only be consider as an expansion. (I don't thinking making it stand alone would be too much of effort anyhow)

In the end, what you end up paying for are the new stories (Which are not that great), new sights, and FASHION (new armors, weapons), while the core game play remain the same.

Its something I would pay $30 on, but not $50.

Here's just something i'd like to share.

If anyone of you know of the game magic the gathering (It's a great game, I'll make an effort to get back into some years later probably) It bears a striking resemblance to GW. And magic the gathering has been out for 13 years now and every new set they come out, there are players who says "I'm quitting" and yet the game is still going strong.

I will agree that from what i have heard factions might be a bit disappointing. But I think GW has a very intresting modle that has much potential. The trick of course, lies in finding new ways to utlize resources and new ways to combine stuff, even new ways to break the rules. Balence issue will always be there, but it's about making ways to work around it.

For example:
1) How about a greater than max dmg bow say 25-38 dmg but put some kind of restriction on it, say dmg -50% while hexed or something.
2) How about a skill that lets you exceed your 8 skill limit and use 2 other skills from your skill bard but at the cost of disabling your other skills.
3) Or perhaps even a skill that lets you pause the game for 2 second freezing all other allies and enemies while only you can move.

as you can see, all my above suggestion are all breaking the rules. (Breaking max dmg, breaking 8 skill rule, even breaking the fact that GW is played continously)

Overall though, I do feel that GW has the potential to change their base game play, and they must do so to keep audiances. Adding dual wielding and teleportation is a start, but there are soooo much more they could do.

anyway, that's just my 2 cents

GWF is FedEx... I started doing the quests in the city but after "pass the buck" I decided I won't do any more quests again! I get tired and bored of running around, if I want to do that I'll run people in Tyria and get money for it since I do not need any experience.

On a side note, if A-net doesn't have an auction house by Cht 3, I won't buy it.

Anet IS NOT MAKING ANY MARKETING DECISSONS, NC-SOFT makes those, thats why we still have all the farm-bot's in GWP.

And if they try to steer me over to more PvP, forgett it, hearing all the "pro players(PvP players)" whinning in missions is enough, noob this and noob that. I play this because I enjoy playing fantasy games, NOT to have some uberplayer running my play. So if more PvP is reguierd in ch3 NO WAY JOSE.

No they don't. Factions only players only have access to the core professions and a few skills from GW:P and they certainly can't go to Tyria.

OT, as I posted in another thread, it's the Faction's only players who I feel sorry for. The having to buy skills and the requirement of rare crafting materials for armour so early in the game are major drawbacks. Brand new players are going to get sick of trying to accumulate the coin for this. Don't tell me the drops have improved. Frequently dropped, non-max gold and green weapons are not an improvement. Runes drop so frequently they're now worth a pittance. ANet don't want us to PvE, they want us to PvP and GvG and now AvA. Is it a surprise that Factions is more PvP orientated than Prophecies after the success of the GWWC? Why do you think there are no SF/Tombs/FoW equivalents in Factions? It's because ANet are hoping all the Prophecies players will switch to PvP. It's a conspiricy.

I'm going to stop whining for a while. It has only been just over a week since Factions came out after all. Let's see how things pan out over the next few weeks. After than I might whine a bit more...

Everybody knows that from the beginning of GWP, that GW has always been build around pvp. In the beginning of GWP, the end result of the game is to cap elite skils then go into pvp.

Now, with faction you are forced in to PVP.

If this isn't a mainly pvp game, with a side dish of rpg, then I don't know what is.

Yeah, I see requests for gold all the time in towns. Those of us with Tyrian characters are lucky... I know my Canthan characters have hit their Tyrian brothers and sisters up for gold so they can get the latest armor ASAP. If that wasn't the case, Factions would feel like even more of a grind.

I also see some problems in the busines model. It will get harder to sell a year+ old game for the initial price, but they can't dump, because they need the money. So what will happen? 2nd edition sometime, with new graphics? Bundles?

Agreed that it will get a lot harder to add another 2 classes and every possible combination thereoff with each chapter, for balancing reasons. Maybe they just allow combination with base classes only, which would start other player bitching.

New classes starting only in the new regions is a somewhat stupid design decision. Not because of the whinning about not getting all possible content. But existing players want to try these classes, so the result is concentration (like 40% Assassins, 40% Ritualists, 20% others) in a small area, which makes a bad gaming experience for everybody concerned.

And I'm not too impressed with factions eather. First impressions were - more of the same... I'm not even intrigued to play much there, but rather build a pre-character (lol) - for me that's a bad sign. (demotivated by things like running around in the monastery outskirts, doing all secondary prof. quest - reach level 10... ouch)

Turnaround can't be avoided in a MMO, ever. NCSofts number for this is 10 months average per player I've read. So yes, new players will make the sales. Yes, the hurdle to return to the game is actually much lower than with a subscription based model. But - if the player base doesn't actually increase, it just gets spread thinner over the world. More so after the next chapters, and that will become a problem.

were you even aware that Factions was almost completed before the GWWC?

this was done BEFORE they knew if it would fail or succeed

There's a reason GW isn't pay-to-play. There's not enough content to warrant it. You can, if you feel so inclined, beat the game in 10-15 hours, a comparable length to most single-player games; and funnily enough, even a crappy 15 hour one-off shooter or adventure game costs $50. Playing that way, you'd be missing out on tons of stuff, but you wouldn't know it unless you'd played the game before, and in that case, you'd have way more time logged anyways.

There's no reason for you to keep playing after 12+ months. Burnout's bascially inevitable if you don't take a break. If you're not having fun, don't play it. A very simple concept. Come back later, if you want to. It's okay. Really.
A valid arguement...in the past. But A.Net screwed that arguement when they set up town control the way they did.

In GW:P You could access ANY end game content and still play in the fashion you have mentioned.

But now, if you want to access town control, and Elite Missions. You have to be a faction grinding machine daily. No more weekly hiatus for you, unless of course you'd like us to throw you out of our uberpowerful controling alliance.

Making sure that you will never see an Elite Mission ever again, or reep the benefits of controling a town.

As for "these threads come up monthly." Go ahead, blow it off as more whiners. If A.Net continues down this path, it'll stop....promise. We'll leave.

Sure, it sounds great to say "then just up and leave, we don't need you whiners." (Not saying you specifically, this is a general comment about people saying such things)

But what do you all think about what would happen if we took you up on that offer? Dead game. Don't even argue. It'd make this a dead game. There are a lot of people who play the game and MIGHT praise it and might care about it. But at least for the most part, you can be sure the people complaining do care. That's why they say things, they want action, they, don't want the game to die, and are subsequently attempting to prevent it by alerting others to a problem so it will be fixed.

It's called tough love.
